A router is a device that is used to connect a Local Area
Network with an internet connection, if you have two distinct local area
networks or if you want to share an internet connection with multiple computers
or any other system or device a router will sort that out. They transmit
information from one place to another similar to a bridge just with a higher
level of intelligence; routers choose the best path to direct a message, based
on its destination path and its origin. Routers can listen into the network to
take smart decisions to determine which sections are the busiest or require
more attention.
